Developed as a way to mitigate student hunger and create opportunities for new vendors, Gather Food Hall is an open, outdoor concept aimed at serving the community at large and college students, in particular. This initiative seeks to combat food insecurity among college students with a shame-free pay-what-you-can model, where full-priced meals help pay for free meals for those who need it while contributing to the vital Philly food scene.
What to expect?
A brief presentation introducing Gather, its overarching mission & goals, and the forces behind it will kick us off. Then, the fun begins!
Guests are given a choice between three rooms, each with three consecutive 30 minutes sessions, that will explore the different components of Gather.
Point of Sale System
In today’s fast-paced environment, self-service kiosks grant customers privacy, cut long lines and simplify order pick up. These kiosks are at the center of Gather’s model in order to provide discreet ways to donate toward or benefit from free, delicious meals from local entrepreneurs, among other resources. Learn more about our innovative digital payment system — specially customized to mitigate against shaming practices that can affect both the donors and recipients of food aid in similar models. We’re also bringing in a data expert to speak on the imperative to work towards student food equality.

The Space
At Gather, we encourage holistic wellness, and that goes beyond watching what you eat. We want people to be informed of all the different, affordable ways to spice up your life and your meals.
In this session, we’ll talk about our COVID-precautions; showcase Gather’s operational flow; and walk you through the available herbs at Gather’s Sensory Garden. But that’s not all! A lucky few will be able to get a quick Tarot Reading to guide you to just the right herb.
